BIBI CHEMNITZ - SS15 - LOST IN NAVIGATIONAs the spring winds sweep over the infinite barren plains of Greenland, we stand on the horizon. Dictated by your surroundings, one must respond openly to the great unknown. Empathically adrift yet strong willed, we rise and promise to let go. In this moment, we are seeking for direction, proudly lifting our faces, looking ahead calmly. As the great lands envelop us, a great moment of release can be sensed. Tuesday July 1.

Today the weather was fair, not good but ok. Most of the day we did some family stuff but we around 21.00 we decided to climb Lille Malene, David, my brother and sister and me. It was really foggy but that made it even more special, it add’ed something kind of scary.

The colors and textures are amazing up here. There even was quit a lot of snow several places on Lille Malene.

BIBI CHEMNITZ GREENLAND SUMMER DIARY. DAY 5.
Monday June 30.

Today the weather was pretty good, some sun and not to much wind so we went out for a sail trip together with my father.

The nature in Greenland is so beautifull, what you see in my pictures is all around you when you go out in the wild in Greenland.

I was so lucky to have my favorite niece Victoria a long for the trip!

Again I did some texture and color hunting. love the dark colors up against the bright colors.

We also did like 30 minutes of fishing, and we ended up with about 12 big cod’s. Sorry for the bloody pictures, but thats how it is in Greenland. I did most of the gutting myself.

We used half of the fish to make fish-cakes (Fiskefrikadeller).

Today was a perfect day!!!

PS: I will upload a few pictures from my monday evening later.

BIBI CHEMNITZ GREENLAND SUMMER DIARY. DAY 4.
Sunday June 29.

Another cold morning, about 6d celcius, but with some good coffee it is all good.

It is so great to have sea view from the apartment, there is always something great to look at.

Today we were so lucky to be invited to a traditional greenlandic Kaffemik because of little Alma’s two year birthday. There is always so many cakes at a kaffemik that you it is pretty much impossible to try them all.

After the kaffemik we took a trip down to the harbor where there is always something cool to look at, some great textures and colors.

For dinner my dad made greenlandic lamb soup, you can even see the greenlandic stamp on some of the meat! Some eat the soup plain some add curry like here. The meat we eat together with a spicy mustard.

Tomorrow the weather should improve so we might go sailing!!!

BIBI CHEMNITZ GREENLAND SUMMER DIARY. DAY 3.
Saturday June 28.

Much like what the weather forecast had predicted all day there was a strong storm and heavy rain in Nuuk which desided much of the daily activity. Almost all outside activities was close to impossible as you can see of David’s face in the reflection of his sunglasses.

Most flights heading in or out of Nuuk was canceled and several of our good friends was effected by this a good not travel all day. We stayed inside watching the soccer games on the telly.

Around 21.00 the weather cleared up and it was possible to venture outside. The last four pictures is from David and mine walk home from my fathers place, it is still very grey but it is after 23.00 so you can see that it does hardly get any dark up here in Nuuk. Nuuk is not above the polar circle (66N) so it does not have 24 sun light in the summer, but very close to.

The second to last picture is a picture of one of the schools I attended as a child, my family moved around a lot.

I promise to take more pictures tomorrow the weather should be much better but it looks like we still have to wait a few days for the sun to get here in full blast.

You might think from looking at my pictures that all of Nuuk is the worn down, this is very much not the case, I just love taking pictures of these old concrete buildings, they have a very special look up here where the weather is so extreem, you do not find this very many places in Europe. One day I will take a trip down to old Nuuk and take some photos of the old houses, and I will also go to the new part with the new buildings.

The twilight is so strange up here when it is so foggy, a little bit like a Silent Hill game. The weather has to improve a lot for our photo shoot, we are shooting next years spring/summer collection.

BIBI CHEMNITZ GREENLAND SUMMER DIARY. DAY 2
Friday June 27.

Like always the weather is the ruler of everything in Nuuk and today it is not in our favor. The only thing to do is to try to make the best of it.

First picture is just a little example of some of the texture hunting we are doing for our SS15 campaign shoot we will do in about a weeks time.

Second and third picture is from what here is call the “Old Board” (Brættet), it’s where the fishermen prepare the daily catch, we came a little late so there was only one left cutting some big redfish.

When you go for walks in Greenland it is very easy to find big framents of bones, some bigger than others. Again there are so many cool textures and colors in the wild.

The sea is so important to the Greenlandic way of life and most people live within 100-200 meters from the sea.

Today I got one of my favorite things to eat here in Greenland, Mattak which is whale skin and blubber. Us inuit people from the artic areas have been eating this for more than 4000 years. The whales are closely regulated and the Inuit people are very careful not of catching more than the whale population can manage. We eat it raw and with a spice that is called aromat and soya. It is very healthy and full of important fats.

Last two pictures is the view from the apartment where we are living the two weeks we are in Nuuk. The night ended with red wine, gin and tonic and a night out in Nuuk’s night life, which is a whole story by it self.

I will try to upload more pictures but the weather forecast the next two days looks really bad before it should clear up the beginning of the new week.

BIBI CHEMNITZ GREENLAND SUMMER DIARY. DAY 1 - Part 1
Thursday June 26.

This summer we are going to Greenland for 14 days to shoot BIBI CHEMNITZ SS15 campaign photos. We will try to keep a day by day photo dairy of our travels to the city where I was born Nuuk - Greenland.

The first day was so amazing, we had a quick stop for one hour at the city Kangerlussuaq, lots of sun and lots of mosquito’s.

Nønne which is the shop in Nuuk that stock BIBI CHEMNITZ made a lovely welcoming for me, so nice of them.

We were so lucky that today was the day when the new students got theire diploma, they all dress up in the traditional Greenlandic clothes and dance around the city, so so great to see all those happy young people.
